How's this for accountability?

So I'm watching and pondering a post that I have had in mind since yesterday. Because, you know, something has to change. I asked Tim to bring my scale over, he did. I got on it this morning (dripping wet as you're supposed to) and my fear was confirmed. I'm back up to 180#. I'm at least 30# overweight for my frame and height.

There, I said it. My real weight. And I want to get my real weight back to 150#. Preferably between 135 and 145, that's where I felt healthiest and strongest, but 150# is doable too. That's about where I was when I was running the daycare.

I am going to get rid of these rolls! Or figure out someway to move all my fat to my bustline. (Like that's ever going to happen).

For the record, with both pregnancies I never got above 165#. So for me to be at 180 first thing in the morning, is ... distressing. Mainly because of all the weight-related diseases that run in my family. Diabetes. Heart diseases. High blood pressure. I want to live to be older than 62.

And you know, I'm just too pretty to die young :-) (Capt. Mal Reynolds)

Now to give up the soda and start walking .... this is so not going to be fun.

  2. Your idea about the sodas is a good one. By not drinking our calories, we make caloric eating more special. And water tastes good with dinner if it is cold. I keep a pitcher in the fridge and put it out on the dinner table. The kids don't ever ask for juice anymore. And in the winter there are fun hot teas/coffees. GL!

  3. I feel your pain. I am way more overweight than you are. Even at 6' tall, the extra is showing for sure. I need to lose about 65 lbs to be about average. I always promised that if I got close to 200 I would diet-well, 200 was quite a few lbs ago!

  4. Change in diets are just not fun. I am going to go over a major change in the way I eat over this next new year and you can bet that there will be grumbling involved.
Hang in there, you'll feel so great when you have achieved your goal!

  6. @Opus #6 I'll have to try drinking water at dinner, and most of my other meals. So far I have stuck to English Breakfast and Earl Grey tea instead of coffee.

@Flora -- If I can look anything like Gina Torres, I'll be MORE than happy :)

@Mommy Mia I'm starting a walking date with a friend. She's in a similar situation to you. Do you have anyone to walk or work out with? We just made the commitment today.

@Kelly are you going vegetarian? Or something else?

@Linda no willpower involved. No money to keep buying clothes!!! This economy sucks, but it's going to make me lose weight. That, and I am tired of being tired.

  7. And as of this morning I have lost a whole whopping 1/4 of a lb.

Tempted to go eat a 1/4 hamburger from McDonald's now.

  9. Hey, I've lost 22 lbs since late July because my cholesterol was up a bit. Just reduced carbohydrate intake significantly. Eat mostly grilled meat or fish, green salad, steamed veggies, fresh fruit. NO carbonated beverages or sugar permitted. I do eat cereal or a bagel for brkfst and sometimes put croutons on my green salads. If you have Trader Joe's near you, they have "Better Than Cream Cheese" which is fantastic; tastes just like the real thing (made from tofu). Walking is my only exercise.

I'm 5'5" and weighed 171. Am down to 149 and hope to get back to 140. Even now I feel soooo much better; more energy. Good luck!

  10. This is where I was a few months ago and I have to share a book that really helped me take a new approach. Dr. Joel Furhman's "Eat to Live". While I don't embrace every single concept in the book it helped me immensely! :)

  11. @GirlFriday (love the nick BTW, one of my ALL time favorite Cary Grant movies) ... Thanks for the book recommendation. It's on my Amazon wishlist and I will try to get it next paycheck
