Mamavation Monday: 200

200 is a number I never wanted to see on my scale. And a few weeks ago I saw it.  Black and white. Re-calibrating my scale didn't change the fact that I was now 50+ pounds overweight for my height and frame. Time to get serious. That, and now my blouses are starting to not fit in addition to my pants. And I really don't like wearing skirts. Or shape wear. Over the summer I tried a few things , but couldn't stick with them. I'm sleep deprived enough. And not all that self-disciplined when it comes to working out. I used to have a more active lifestyle, and I was the girl you loved to hate because I could eat like a horse and the weight would. not. stick . At one point my grandmother threatened to put me in the hospital because I was losing weight for no apparent reason (it was stress related to finals) but I had dropped back down to 115 (I'm 5'9"). I want to get back to the weight I was at 25 – a fairly healthy 135-140. My current weight is maintaining at...

Exhausted

… again. I don’t think I’ve gotten more than 4 or 5 good solid hours of sleep in the last 7 days. Some days even less, only one or two due to insomnia, children with nightmares, or hip/back pain. Despite all of my chiropractic therapy, I’m really afraid that I might be developing arthritis in my hips, knees, and hands. It runs in the family. I’ve had CTS before (had to use a brace for 6 weeks!!! thank goodness someone loaned me Dragon Naturally Speaking at the time. An English Lit major not able to type up her papers … oi!), that was no fun. I’ve given in. between @ jasperblu , @ phraktyl , and two co-workers I am going to try acupuncture. My office-mate gave me the name and number of the doctor he goes to, and she went to the trouble of finding out his rates and if he’s open on Saturdays since she knows that I live out in BFE . Boring and dry, ain't it? I’m hoping to get some time this weekend to soak in a nice hot bath. That’s my incentive to clean (don’t ask and I won’t te...

Sleep Deprivation

How timely. This arrived in my inbox this morning from my employer's health benefits program. I write this with sniffling, post-nasal drip , sore throat and body aches. My observations are in red. Did you know? People who sleep fewer than 6 hours a night have a 50% increased risk of viral infections and an increased risk of heart disease and stroke (woke up sick) Sleep allows both the body and the brain to rest and heal. Without enough sleep the brain loses power and an individual will have problems with memory and concentration (and here I've been blaming all that time I was on Zoloft) Adults need 7-8 hours of sleep each night and school ages children/teens need at least 9-12 hours of sleep a night to be productive (I am lucky to get 6.5 during the week) Driving while sleepy can be just as dangerous as driving drunk, since your reaction time are slower when you a sleepy (been there, done that, DO NOT want the t-shirt) If you're one of the many people who are short o...

Wii Fit - Day 2

Image via Wikipedia Well, this morning was a bust. Last night I didn't take my sleep aid, since I was sleepy from 8PM I thought I would have no trouble falling asleep. I should have gone straight to bed. Instead I ate a very healthy spinach salad (under 400 calories) that my sister made (thanks Brit!) and watched a little T.V. Before the wave of ennui and fatigue hit my goal had been to get home, change, walk Zoe, THEN eat dinner, chill, and go to bed. So after dinner, I watched both hours of nicktoons Avatar Extras (all the Aang you can get , plus pop-up video-esque trivia). My alarm is set for 4:45. 15 minutes to wake up, then the proposed schedule is the Wii Fit Challenge from 5:00-5:45, then 30 minutes to get ready for work. I did it yesterday, mostly. Today, I kept hitting snooze and my brain didn't engage until panic mode at 5:45 when I jumped out of bed ... and made sloth-like progress through my shower and dressing. Luckily I was given a ride in to work and slep...

Port

Thank you plb. Still working on that bottle I got a few months ago, but on nights like this, it comes in SO handy. I can sleep fairly peacefully and not wake up groggy. Which is a good thing. Work and all. One of these days I will get back to proper blogging without all of the photos getting in the way. I used to have witty things to say, right? In the meantime, read my twitter stream over there to the left. Micro-blogging at it's ... at my best.
