Menu Plan Monday: A Return to Clean Eating

It’s January, and you know what that means. Whole 30 . I won’t bore you. My attitude towards it hasn’t changed, though, to be perfectly honest, I think I have deviated away enough from clean eating that I am feeling the difference now.

January 2019 Whole 30

Hell Week. I mean month. Here we go, the reset . The fun part this time around, trying to make it work for three people, one who is on a restricted FODMAPS diet and has POTS symptoms. To be perfectly honest, as my daughter has pointed out, she has kept to mostly healthy snacks since arriving. The downside - she's already lost weight which means there will be clothes shopping in our future.

Menu Plan Monday: Battle of the Home Meal Kits

As mentioned previously , using a meal kit delivery service to stay Whole30 compliant isn't the easiest thing to do without some forethought and planning. On Instagram, the Whole30 account was touting their partnership with Blue Apron, so we thought we would try them out.

Menu Plan Monday: Plated - Week 2

Honestly, at this point in the year, it's kind of nice to not have to come up with new things to cook. I am not one of those people who can eat the same thing all the time, or have a "night" for a specific meal, but even with the internet, I am running out of quick, tasty, and healthy dinners. We are heading into week two of Plated and only having to grocery shop for the weekend is a load off my mind. One less thing to schedule time for. I did forget to go in this week and change everything to be Whole30 compliant, but I think we will be ok since it's only one serving. One more gushing thing that I am not being paid to say, Plated is letting me travel through my mouth! I know there is no way I would have been able to find the aji paste for last week's Peruvian's Aji Chicken around here. As of this week, I have five referrals available via email, so let me know if you would like to try a week of Plated at a deep discount ( like free ). Plated Menu C...

Menu Plan Monday: Plated

I've been more than a little skeptical of the home delivery meal kit plans for various reasons.

Menu Plan Monday: Ambition

I'm sitting here asking myself why did I sign up for this? Nothing like a little ambition to start the new year. The #cook90 Starter Guide https://t.co/uoxYtYZbRy #fb — Annette (@daNanner) December 25, 2017 But the madness works out because we're doing another #januarywhole30 . The last time I attempted this was three years ago . I was over it pretty quickly. But, here I am again, in solidarity. I didn't lose weight or feel anything other than pissed off at the world last time, so we'll see if it's different this time around. Since I'm still mostly Paleo menu-planning is easy enough. And you can follow me on Instagram since I will be posting for both the Cook90 Challenge and Whole30. This is going to be a fun month.

Menu Plan Monday: It's Fall

It's officially Fall and I am craving carbs, like potato soup , but Houston doesn't understand that it's Fall. It's still acting like Summer. Like SoCal, but worse. Much worse with the humidity. Well, except for today, today it's cool and rainy and finally a day I can wear jeans! This week's fall inspired menu will include seasonal vegetables and warm comfort food. Monday : Beef Pot Roast/Brisket with roasted vegetables (The Whole30 pg 214) Tuesday : Ratatouille (pg 288) and Meatballs (pg 226) Wednesday : Chicken with grilled asparagus Thursday : Salmon and Garlic Mashed Potatoes Dairy Free Garlic Mashed Potatoes Friday : Surf'N'Turf Salad Surf'N'Turf Salad Breakfast will be these wonderful Blueberry Muffins and/or Eggs and Bacon. Lunch will be leftovers (if I'm lucky), or tuna and avocado.

Menu Plan Monday: Currying Favor

This week I just asked what everyone wanted to eat. I'm still not sure I remember everything correctly, but two different kinds of curry were asked for. That works for me. Curry is easily and naturally Whole30 (especially now that I have switched to using coconut cream), and free of everything Joy can't eat without massive modification. Actually, everything she asked for this week I can cook without modification. Monday : Curried Turkey Cutlets with Dried Apricots Curried Turkey Cutlets with Dried Apricots Tuesday : Lemon Garlic Chicken Quinoa Pasta Primavera Pasta Primavera Wednesday: Curried Chicken - Indian Style Chicken Curry Thursday: Beef Broccoli   - I really need to pick up some coconut aminos, but the last few times I have made it with just the spices and seasoning have gone over fairly well. Beef Broccoli Friday : Chili Verde Chili Verde Saturday : Strawberry Avocado Chicken Salad Strawberry Chicken Avocado Salad Menu Pla...

Menu Plan Monday: Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

I might have stocked up on chicken parts last week (or maybe two weeks ago ), and the items on that menu plan made lots of leftovers, plus a trip to NOLA, and I haven't had to go grocery shopping in a while. After taking stock of what meat was still in the freezer, this trip will mainly be veggies and side dishes. Sunday : Pineapple Ceviche - inspired by the yellowfin tuna cones at SoBou . So good! I still need to write up that trip. Maybe I will while noshing on ceviche. Yellowfin Tuna Cones Monday : Jerk Chicken and Stuffed Sweet Potatoes Caribbean Jerk Chicken and Stuffed Sweet Potato Tuesday : Chicken Cacciatore (Whole30) Wednesday : Pecan Crusted Chicken (no breadcrumbs) Thursday : Casablanca Chutney Chicken Casablanca Chutney Chicken Friday : Early birthday trip, I better not have to cook dinner. Saturday : Still celebrating. I'll probably post all my delicious eats on Foodspotting .

Menu Plan Monday: Using the Whole30 Cookbook

The chores never end, even when you work from home. The Man asked if he could help with anything, so I handed him the cookbooks and said "Pick a few recipes". Going back to strict Whole30 is helping him, I'm supplementing my mood with raw honey and dark chocolate. Trust me, it's needed. And with the <insert expletive> heat and humidity in Houston, I'm ok with not losing weight the way I was in California. I figure I'll hit goal weight eventually. It's taken over a month for me to get back on a regular walking schedule, that's good enough for now. In no particular order this week: Sunday : Tilapia with Green beans and Cherry tomatoes #cy365 Day 27 Tonight's dinner is a #nourishing meal of broiled tilapia (liberally seasoned with Italian seasoning), green beans and cherry tomatoes with a side of avocado. Cooks up from frozen in about 15 minutes. #timesaver #whole30 #captureyour365 #paleo #oneography #foodphotography A photo p...

Am I a Whole30 Failure?

Yes, I am and I am not afraid to admit it. No justification. And I am not going to let it stress me out. There are some reasons behind it that make me okay with failure. Usually I would be beating myself up over failing something like this. First off, I am so sick and tired of eggs - and I love eggs!,  especially since I can't have cheesy omelettes.  Not that I usually put cheese in my omelettes, but that flat out restriction is really irksome. I like a light breakfast of Greek yogurt and fruit. The lack of raw honey every day is almost worse than the chocolate restriction. I don't have food relationship issues. Food and I get along very well. I now feed my body whole, nutritionally dense, natural foods to keep me healthy (and fit, we're getting there). Being on this for one week is causing me more anxiety than I care to deal with. Occasionally I splurge on the non-natural, not-so-nutritionally dense items, my body reminds me why I don't do that any more, and we ...
