Response to: Growing up in the Digital Age

Image via CrunchBase My blogger/twitter friend Duong wrote an interesting article on Kids in the Digital Age. She ended it with a question: How do you deal with your kids growing up in the digital age? What advice or suggestions would you offer parents? My answer was pretty long for a blog comment, and it got me thinking. I decided to post my response here, just in case: I was/am very strict with my teen son's use of social media. At one point he got his computer privileges taken away for over a month for starting a MySpace account without parental consent -- and I made him wait until he turned 14 (legal age according to MySpace TOS at the time) to get an account. The one rule was that I had to be one of his friends and if necessary, could require his password at anytime. I try to check his account on a regular basis to see what he and his friends are up to. He has to know every person in real life, and his account is private. If he can't explain to me who someone is, I make...

Before I forget

My favorite Superbowl ads :) you can view all the ads here Budweiser Clydesdales Superbowl Ad: Hank the Clydesdale Description: Budweiser Beer Commercial in which Hank the Clydesdale horse is not chosen for the beer wagon team one year. He is befriended by a Dalmation, who then becomes his trainer for a year working him in the rain, having him lift loads and pull train cars to get in shape. One year later, Hank is chosen quickly as the coach tells him “Welcome aboard Hank.” The ad ends with a high five, er, hoof to paw congratulatory gesture between Clydesdale horse and dalmation dog. - AUBW8860H Sobe Life Water Super Bowl Commercial: Naomi Campbell Add to My Profile | More Videos Planters Nuts Super Bowl Commercial: Woman Attracts Men w/ Nuts Add to My Profile | More Videos Pepsi Stuff Super Bowl Commercial: Justin Timberlake Description: The Pepsi Stuff promo shows Justin Timberlake being drawn toward a woman and somehow pulled through space, off the ground, by some magnetic fo...

CONCERTGASM!!!!

OK, so I logged into MySpace real quick (what else do I have now that I am unemployed) and lo and behold the Jars are coming to town!!! (figuratively) *insert gasm of choice* :) . They are going to be in Anaheim at the House of Blues on the 10th. And in Bakersfield (affectionately called the armpit of CA) on Oct 7th. I wanna go!!! (yes, I love the Jars). I love them so much that even though I would GLADLY drag all of my dearest friends to the concert just so they could experience it ... I don't mind going alone either. Just so that I am there!!!! OK, bedtime for me. *sigh* If I didn't have kids I would sooooo be a groupie. (side note, due to 'puter problems this short notice took almost AN HOUR to write. Tim is my witness)

Blast from the past

I lost all of my HS pics in the move up here (they were in storage). So today one of my girlfriends posted this on my myspace. Spring Fling 1992 My immediate response? Damn I was dark (and what was I thinking with that hair?!?!?!!) My second ... whatever happened to Erica? and third ... after D told me, was to add Esther to my face book and MySpace accounts. Now whatever happened to Erica????

Good things come out of MySpace

happy happy joy joy!!!! Another good Friday. I finally get home and check my email for the first time all week and see a name I thought I would NEVER see again though I have been searching off and on for years. Have you ever had a good friend, and then life gets in the way, and you lose touch, and wonder "What ever happened to ...?" and then you get an email (OK, MySpace message) ... and wow! it's not spam! It's THAT person and everything starts to get right with the world again. Especially when you find out that person has been missing you, too. Good friends are INCREDIBLY hard to find and harder to keep. Don't lose 'em, and if you do, keep looking for them till you find them. So glad to have this person back in my life.
