Aladdin and His Wonderfully Infernal Device by Tee Morris My rating: 2 of 5 stars I've been reading and listening to Tee Morris since he podcasted Morevi: The Chronicles of Rafe and Askana . I've really enjoyed Phoenix Rising , The Janus Affair , and all of the MoPo podcasts , so much so that I automatically buy the printed collections on Nook and Kindle to support the authors (the podcasts are better though). I avoided reading all of the other reviews of this story so I could approach it with an open mind. I am a huge fan of fairy tales--Grimm, Anderson, Arabian Nights, etc. I am also a huge Disney fan. I think this treatment of the story needs more fleshing out and a little more originality to separate it from its predecessors. If I wasn't aware of (or maybe because I was aware of them) the slight pop-culture references, mixed with steampunk and a retelling of Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp was a very disconcerting experience. Yes, that Tee Morris if you bother to read my blog at all. Tee is working on a book for Que Publishing and somehow it came about that I get to be a consultant for the chapter on G1s (that’s gotta earn me #geekgirl points too, right)? I was thrilled, and charmed, and surprised. Thrilled that he would even consider giving me his phone number (I promise not to stalk you, Tee), instead of over Skype. Charmed at how well he handled the interview, including getting me back on track when I’d go off on some tangent (like how talking to him was totally unlike when I met David Brin , though we didn’t talk about that). As many of my long time readers know, I am a huge fan of Tee Morris and Philippa Ballantine . One reason for this is their incredible podiobooks . Another is that they are accessible to fans on twitter. (Yes, I know, I'm practically a techno-vangelist for the site). by Tee Morris Love mystery? Fantasy? Film noir? How about Philip Marlowe or David Eddings? If you can say yes to any of these questions, run, don't walk, to get a copy of The Case of the Pitcher's Pendant: A Billibub Baddings Mystery . It's the perfect mix of all the above. Tee Morris flows in his use of metaphor and imagery of the 1920's. If you have listened to the podcast of The Case of the Singing Sword you can almost hear Tee narrating his latest Billibub offering. Enjoy the mix of baseball and fantasy metaphors that flow together seamlessly. Billi's character development, as well as that of the supporting cast is credible. No need to suspend (much) belief when reading. I could go on, but I'm afraid of giving out spoilers. If you don't mind mixing your genres, this is an enchanting and entertaining read.
