Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad DAY!

Yes, I am having one. No, I am not PMSing. I wish I knew what to blame it on. Maybe this unholy wind blowing through SoCal at the moment. All I know is I need to get this out before I can get down to business. Meaning the job that I get paid for. If my computer manages to not blow-up, because, you know, it's overheating like it's about to blow a head gasket or something. The morning actually started quite pleasantly. I woke up from a marvelous dream, relaxed, happy, NOT STRESSED and tensed up and look, Ma! No bags under my eyes! And then I had to get my daughter up. Who had had another bout of insomnia, though not as bad as in the last few months (I've taken to just locking my door so she gets the message to let me sleep).  And then she wanted to fight with me regarding personal hygiene. I thought that was a boy thing, not a girl thing. Oh! And both her and her father neglected to mention at drop-off that her make-up report on Greece was incomplete. Well, her plan was ...

Monday's Wild Ride

Well... This morning's commute didn't go as planned. We were single-tracking due to someone possibly falling on the tracks. That was the rumor anyway. I'll have to find out for sure later. This is all Metro had to say about it. Red Line up to 15 min delays due to police activity at Vermont/Santa Monica. Trains share 1 track in area. Follow announcements. ^JRA — Metro LA Alerts (@metrolaalerts) January 13, 2014 Then, in my car, someone was claustrophobic and passed out. Instant crowd panic. Or so it seemed. There was lots of yelling that woke me from my cat nap. There were some clear-headed commuters around the damsel in distress, but someone else pulled the emergency door release while other passengers started yelling "Red button! Press the red button! We have an emergency!" Of course the red button was down in my end of the car and it alerts the driver that there's an emergency (to be handled at the next stop). The Red Button was pushed. The person ...

Every Parent's Worst Nightmare

Want to see me age 20 years and gain grey hair in a matter of a few heartbeats? Have my son go missing for a few hours. The Crisis I get off work at 3:30PM. I got home at 3:40PM. Josh doesn't have his key this week (it got left at a friend's over the weekend) and so I make it home, wait for him, then go get Joy. I waited until 4:15PM. Josh is usually home by 3:45/3:50. 4:15 has been the latest when he takes the bus. I left a way for him to get in the house, went to pick up Joy and kept calling home every few minutes to see if he was there. Panic begins to set in after I get Joy and call Tim to let him know that Josh isn't home and did he happen to mention if he was going somewhere after school? Tim confirms that my firstborn did NOT say anything about going to a friend's, or a game, nor has he received a call about any afterschool activities. Josh didn't mention anything to anyone , and it's the middle of the week; so I was starting to really really worried. He ...
