Ear Infection, Old Man Vestibular Disease, or Stroke?

These are the possible things that are wrong with Buddy, our 10-yr-old cocker spaniel. I adopted him just over two years ago . At the time he was quite spry and I was positive we would get at least 5 years out of him if not more. He has a “stubborn old man” personality. Buddy’s had a traumatic few weeks that culminated in a vet visit yesterday, an anti-nausea shot, getting his ears flushed, and antibiotics for the next week.

Word(less) Wednesday: Moving is exhausting

Wordless Wednesday: Moving is exhausting Originally uploaded by Nannerlady It's been a busy week already, starting with an extremely busy weekend. My daughter, Joy , has been asking to live with me for quite a while now. What some of you may not know is that I have been seperated for almost 3 years. The way things shook out is that I have had my son, and Joy stayed with her father. That all changed this past weekend. Both kids are living with me and we are trying to reintegrate as a family. Blessedly, the kids have matured enough that the only thing they fight over now is who is messier in the bathroom (the Boy is winning! ewww! but that's another post). She didn't chose to move a lot of things, realizing that she still has two residences, but we got her all settled in with a proper bedroom, her clothes, Buddy (the cocker spaniel), and Noel, her guinea pig . No, I am not running Animal Farm , though some days it feels like it. Today was the first day of school for...

AAA to the Rescue - Again

Here are the dogs waiting patiently with me as I wait for AAA, again. A little over a month ago I had to call AAA to come unlock my car. Last night was a little more dramatic. I thought I was being a good doggie mommy when I got home and it was about 90 degrees in the house. HOT! I changed as quickly as possible into a T-shirt, board shorts and Teva's (love my Teva's, but that's another story), grabbed leashes and away we went. The dogs get so excited when I grab the leashes. And even more so when I told them to go to the car instead of "Front" (front means you have to pee and poop out front and just get a walk. Car means "Yay! We're going somewhere and get to SMELL things!") So, we head out to the beach. I chose the board shorts because they have a pocket I can keep my keys and phone in. Apparently about 5 minutes in, or sometime after I locked my car (this time I clearly remember having keys in hand!) my keys fell out into the soft sand from a ho...

do dogs have gender confusion?

We have a new dog, Buddy. He's an 8 yr old male. Zoe and he have been trying to decide which one is dominant. It's hilarious to watch, but now Zoe thinks she needs to hump Buddy.

How much for the doggy in the window?

Ok, so he wasn't in a window. He was at the pound. Or as they are called today, the spcaLA . We looked at some Chihuahua mixes at the Seal Beach Animal Shelter , but they didn't like Josh. Well, the one that I liked and that got along with Zoe didn't like Josh. We visited Buddy a few times at the spcaLA shelter, first me and Josh, then Joy, Zoe, me and Josh. We kind of did it backwards, but not our fault! They were incredibly busy, short-staffed, and hence a little disorganized. But anyway! I wish I had taken pictures of Zoe and Buddy's first introduction. They played really well together, and for an old man, he certainly can keep up with the young pup. The staff seemed fairly impressed at how well everyone, kids included, got along. And so, we brought him home.  Josh was a little disappointed that we didn't get the terrier mix that he wanted , but I think he's adjusted to life with Buddy, a much quieter and cuddlier dog than Zoe.  So if you think Jensen th...
